DEA notice 2026-20943 · sign-on letter

Ask them to sign it

A one-page letter for elected officials and candidates to sign. It asks the DEA and the Department of Health and Human Services to withdraw the notice that would put 7-OH and MP in Schedule I, and to regulate these products instead of banning them.

Election Day is 3 November. Candidates are easiest to reach in the weeks before it, and a signature puts their answer on the record.

Both are PDFs for US letter paper: the letter is one page (180 KB), the plan two (345 KB). Or open the letter or the plan in your browser.

The letter

Four asks, on one page

It is addressed to DEA Administrator Terrance Cole and Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and it asks for four things:

  1. Withdraw the notice No temporary scheduling order for 7-OH or MP.
  2. Hear from the public Full notice-and-comment rulemaking, with the data behind the notice published.
  3. Disclose and recuse Every official involved should disclose any financial interest in, or contribution from, the kratom industry, and step aside where there is a conflict.
  4. Regulate instead of prohibit Batch lab testing, accurate labels, child-resistant packaging, sales to adults 21 and over, and no criminal penalties for possession.

How to use it

Print it, ask, send it back

  1. Print it One page with eight signature lines. Write your own name on the “Coordinated by” line at the bottom.
  2. Find who is on your ballot Anyone in elected office or running for one: Congress, the statehouse, the county, the city council. Your county or state election office publishes the candidate list and a sample ballot. Find my reps covers the people in office now.
  3. Ask them At a town hall, a candidate forum, a campaign office or the door. Campaigns answer email too: send the PDF and ask for a signed copy back. The ask is one sentence: Will you sign this letter opposing the DEA’s plan to put 7-OH in Schedule I? Find an event near you.
  4. Send it to us A scan or a clear phone photo of the signed page, to info@havenaccess.org.
A signature is public

Above the signature lines the letter says: “By signing, I join this letter and publicly oppose this action.” Tell the person you are asking before they sign.

Ask everyone on the ballot

From every party. The members of Congress who wrote to the DEA about the last notice, in 2016, came from both parties.

Ask soon

The order can be issued as early as 13 November, and it takes effect the day it is published. There is no comment period, so the only objections on the record are the ones people put there.

Find an event

Where to find them before the election

Put in your town and we will look for town halls, candidate forums, debates and party meetings within about an hour’s drive, from today to 13 November, nearest first. Take the letter with you.

A search takes a minute or two, and you get a few each day. A town someone already searched today loads at once and doesn’t count.

Your town and state, and nothing else, go to the event search on Civic Duty (civicduty.blaskattacks.com), run independently by a Haven Access volunteer. It runs one web search through OpenAI. Every event shown was found on its own web page with that date and town, but plans change: confirm with the organizer before you go. Drive times are the search’s own estimates. How the search works.

The action plan

Take it to every candidate, together

The letter works best handed over in person, by a group, at a public event. The plan is two pages on how to do that: the dates that matter, six steps from building a local group to recording each answer, the points to make, what to say when someone pushes back, ground rules for events, and a tracker for every candidate you ask.

  1. Build your local group Ten names each, and a group chat for your town.
  2. Educate and call Both senators and your representative, and again in week three.
  3. Find the events Campaign pages, party calendars from both parties, candidate forums, council and commission meetings. Search for events near you.
  4. Show up together Five or more, early, on the speaker or question list.
  5. Present the letter One ask, the same from everyone in the group, and a printed copy to sign on the spot.
  6. Record and report Log every answer on the tracker and send signed letters to info@havenaccess.org.

Why a letter

It has worked before

On 31 August 2016 the DEA said it would put mitragynine and 7-OH in Schedule I. More than 60 members of Congress, from both parties, wrote asking it to reconsider. On 13 October 2016 the DEA withdrew the notice and asked for public comment instead.

What the 2026 notice does, clause by clause. And call your own members of Congress as well: the letter works best alongside the calls.
